How to style your home like the movies: The Intern

Ok, so I am a little late to the game but last night I watched The Intern (I am a total sucker for a RomCom) and I have to admit that I couldn’t take my eyes off the interiors. You know you are getting on a bit when the kitchen gets you more excited than the hunky male lead in the films, right? Although, i’m not suggesting Robert DeNiro wasn’t very hunky 😉

Anyway, little bit of Googling later and I wasn’t surprised to see the set design was done by non other than movie director, producer and interiors extraordinaire, Nancy Meyers. If you are not sure who she is, do you remember the homes in Father of the Bride, The Holiday (that LA mansion!), It’s Complicated, The Parent Trap? All gorgeous, and Meyers was responsible for creating them. Fun fact, the two homes in The Parent Trap are one of my earliest memories of being captivated by interior design. I was totally obsessed with that movie and the homes in it.

But, I digress; back to The Intern. The set is mainly based in a New York Brownstone (hello dream house) and an old factory-cum-fancy office. They are so drool-worthy. In fact, I have heard that the house is non other than Jenna Lyons’ NY home so you would expect good things.

Here’s a run through of my favourite rooms from the film, and how you can get the look too. I am not going to lie, I had a blast sourcing items from the set that you can buy in real life, and I actually squealed on a number of occasions when I found either the exact item, or something pretty identical for a fraction of the price. Enjoy!

    Hi Claire,

Yes please to more posts like this! I’m planning my first home so all ideas are helpful. I’m probably 20 years off from affording a massive kitchen like that but I like the pieces you have chosen! I particularly love the black/white zig zag pattern.
