So I am a girl with lofty ambitions; one of them is to own a super yacht…oh ok, just to take a trip on would would do, as would a trip in a private jet and a stay on a private island! Pretty unachievable when you are not Beyoncé, but a girl has got to have dreams, right?!
But sometimes, dreams can become realities and when I found out our Maldives island resort Maafushivaru had its very own private island Lonobu, I couldn’t wait to sink my feet in to it!
They offered a few options, from having a private meal there, to staying overnight on your own, or simply just a few hours there in the day. As I shy away from anything too overtly romantic the meal was a no-no for me, and we were on a budget so couldn’t have the place to ourselves for the night. I was more than happy to pop over for the day and fantasise about all the scenarios that could have happened to find us there – shipwreck, planecrash, lottery win…. hours of fun!
We jumped on a little boat from the main island and chugged along for about ten minutes or less before pulling in to our private jetty. I leaped from the boat, waving goodbye to it as it turned around and left us stranded. Gleefully, we skipped along the pristine beaches hand in hand revelling in the silence and empty stretches of perfect beach.
We spent the afternoon snorkelling around the island where the reef was spectacular and the fish were simply amazing, and drying off on the silky sand.
Just as our tummies started to rumble, we heard the distant chug chug of our rescue boat, coming back to get us. We blew a little kiss to our private island as we left, vowing to never forget out shipwreck adventure!
