Panelling and panelled walls are having an interiors comeback and I for one am obsessed.
They add depth, interest and warmth to a home as well as injecting some serious glamour.
I dipped my toe in with a bit of diy panelling in our downstairs toilet and painted it a gorgeous blue (Juniper Ash by my favourite paint company Little Greene) – consequently it became my favourite room in the house! So, my next plan is to go whole hog and add it to a bigger room. Our front reception room is next on the agenda for a make over (yes yes I know, I haven’t finished the kitchen or the lounge yet) and panelling is on the top of my list.
I am still to decide what kind to go for, which style and whether to go bold and paint it a dark colour or keep it light and fresh…but it shall definitely be making an appearance.
I think panelling works really well in period homes and doesn’t have to be traditional. Equally sized panels painted in bold colours can look very modern with the bonus of staying chic. This is a feature that won’t date or go out of fashion and will really make a statement in your home.
You also don’t need to go the whole wall height and can opt for just half height – perfect if you don’t want to paint the whole room one colour.
