New stairway

For over 18 months we have had no carpet on the landing or stairs. There have been gripper rods hiding in corners just waiting to catch an unsuspecting toe, and the bare boards made it feel like we were squatting.

The second floor was cut off from the first by a glass partition, and the bannisters had seen better days.

But with a little bit of attention, a lot of elbow grease and a fair bit of carpet later, it is like a different place.

I wanted to make a feature of the stairs, rather than it just be an access route so went for a runner, with the sides of the steps showing. We stained and then varnished the treads of the steps a deep brown, and painted the risers white which makes them really stand out and shows off the carpet.

The carpet is the Wool Iconic Strips in Morrison from Alternative Flooring.

It has got a subtle strip that you can barely see from far away but notice when you are up close.

What is really great with this brand is you can choose a carpet and have it made into a runner as we have, or even a rug. It can be edged in whatever you fancy. We went for a simple wool edging in the morrison colour but you can go for something that contrasts if you like.

Oh, and if you want to know what it looked like before, here you go.

Pretty cool transformation hey?! What do you think?
