Arriving in (rainy) Skiathos

After a tumultuous few months, I booked a last minute package holiday to Skiathos in Greece with the lovely Lynsey. I was hoping for seven days lazing around in the sunshine, looking out to the horizon and jumping in the sea.

But on the first morning we awoke not to glorious sunshine but the familiar sound of rain pummelling the roof. It was raining so hard we couldn’t see the horizon and the only jumping I thought I would be doing would be in puddles.

10 tips for surviving a shopping trip to Aldi

Once, not very long ago, it was embarrassing to shop at a discounter. People would spend more than they needed to just to keep up appearances or shop at the cheaper shops on the quiet.

Nowadays, people almost brag about how little their weekly shop costs. It’s cool to save! We’ve probably got the recession to thank for that, and the fact the discounters have seriously upped their game.

Roasted plum and cinnamon ice cream

Over the last few weeks, I have spent a fair bit of time in Evesham, which is fruit central at this time of year. All along the roadside tree branches are overwhelmed with the weight of their ripe, succulent fruits. They look like they are reaching out, asking you to help lighten their load. Well, my dad and I don’t like to see a tree in distress so we stretched and reached and plucked the delicious fruit from their branches, nibbling a few along the way and filling our arms, delighted with our bounty.
