Burger and Lobster

A few weekends ago, Mr B and I went over to Cardiff to help celebrate a friend’s birthday. Before the party, we checked out one of Cardiff’s newest and most exciting restaurants - Burger and Lobster. The first in the UK outside of London, they serve up, ahem, burgers and lobsters for £20 each.

But i’m, getting ahead of myself. Before all of that we booked ourselves into a hotel, got dressed up and went for a walk down memory lane - to the bar where we first ever met.

My good friend Bex had been telling me for a while about a very eligible chap she worked with. I wasn’t really interested so it wasn’t until months later when I met her and her work friends for a drink one night that I met the guy.

Tall, gentlemanly and very handsome, I was pretty much smitten right away, although it took us a while to get together. Fast forward seven years or so, and we went back to the scene of the meeting for a little glass of bubbles.

After our drinks, we headed over to the restaurant which is in the Hayes. You can’t reserve a table so we left our name with the front of house staff, who gave us a buzzer, and showed us to the bar where we could wait for it to zap into life.

The bar was lively and fun. Staff nipped about the place looking busy but relaxed. Huge plates of burgers and lobsters flew passed us and made our mouths water.

We chose our drinks from the bar menu - the only menu in the place. Your food ‘menu’ will be delivered to you by your waiting staff and consists of three items. A burger, a whole lobster or a lobster roll. Simples.

Sadly, we must have arrived at just the wrong time, as we finished one drink, then another and we had heard nothing from the buzzer. I started to panic about being late for the party. After waiting another while and still no sign of being seated, I spoke to the staff and they found us a little table.

We donned our bibs, and ordered. A burger for the MR.

A huge corn-fed Nebraskan steak burger with bacon, cheese, pickles, served with fries and a side salad.

To keep things quick I opted for the lobster roll. Heaps of delicious chunks of fresh lobster meat, coated in a delicate Japanese mayo and loaded into a sweet toasted brioche bun.

I guess £20 each for a burger and lobster roll is quite pricey, but they were both delicious and had plenty of meat. And by the looks of the lobster, £20 is an absolute bargain.

Our server Martin was great. He helped make sure our food came quickly so we could dash off to the party, and was polite and friendly in the perfect measure in a restaurant.

I will be back to Burger and Lobster, and will be ordering that whole lobster without a doubt! If you go to the one in Cardiff, make sure you take a trip to the loos to check out the artwork on the way.

Cool heh?!
