Honey Bunny
This little rascal is a soft as a teddy bear and is more like a cat or a dog than a rabbit. She has the run of the house in the evenings, and keeps the lawn under control in the day. She was intended for an arranged marriage to Alfie, who sadly and very unexpectedly passed away only a couple of days before her arrival. She is very naughty, but I totally adore her.
Clover Rabbit
Clover was a little surprise from my dad when he heard Alfie had died. She was ‘rescued’ from a farm home, and when she arrived in a battered cardboard box she was the size of a hippo and absolutely terrified of everyone and everything. She is now a slim Jim, and although she is still a little timid she is coming out of her shell day by day. Unfortunately, her and Honey hate each other and have to live separate lives but I live in hope that one day they will be able to co-habit.
Thanks Pops!
The chickens
Why do I have chickens in inner city Birmingham I hear you ask? Well, I know it’s a bit odd but I like the paradox of living only a few miles from the second biggest city in Great Britain and collecting fresh eggs every morning! Also, being a veggie, I like to know my food is coming from somewhere that doesn’t infringe on animal welfare. I’m working on getting my own cow for milk….!
These girls spent the first year of their life being battery hens, and they came to us for their retirement in May 2013. They started as a threesome, but a couple of months in whilst roaming the garden, middle chicken and Mr Fox had a run in and sadly middle chicken lost. They only roam whilst under close supervision now.
When they arrived, these girls were in a bit of a sorry state, missing feathers and generally looking pretty awful. Their feathers are growing back and they are putting on a lot of weight. They are very friendly, and give us lovely eggs.
