Island tour

When the sun did come out, it came out in all its technicolour glory. We celebrated with a boat trip around the whole island of Skiathos, stopping along the way to swim or explore.

Skiathos is very beautiful and is a treat for all your senses. Jagged rocks leap out of the ocean towards the sky, which make way to gently sloping sand beaches with bright green pine forest backdrops. The sea is clear and coloured in an array of dazzling shades of blue.

Our first stop was to Lalaria, a pebbled beach accessible only by boat. It is rumoured that if you swim round the arch twice, you will get younger. I didn’t make it so will have to stay the age I am!

After a good swim and a bit of sunbathing it was back on board.

We then headed to Alonissos where we decided to make the trek up to the ruined old town of Kastro. It was a bit of a hard slog under the scorching sun, and our footwear was far from ideal but we scrambled up and were rewarded with spectacular views across the bay.

My dress is from Accessorize Beach, which gets me at the airport every time. Available here. And my hat was a gift from my Dad, but Acessorize have one almost identical here.

Our next stop was for lunch and I don’t have any pictures as quite frankly it was disappointing. We must have done something to upset them as we received shoddy service when everyone around us were being treated like kings!

Finally, we headed off to one of the many islets of the coast of Skiathos where we had a look at a church (apparently it’s in the film Mama Mia) before taking a last swim of the day.

When we landed back in the old post of Skiathos, unwilling to give up the afternoon sun we headed with our new friends Bernie and Jeff for a cocktail, which turned into two, three then dinner and an altogether fabulous end to a lovely day.

My advice if you are thinking about booking a boat trip around Skiathos is to pick a small boat - that way you will have a more intimate experience and you will be less likely to be bombarded with load Mama Mia music during the trip like we were! Unless you want that sort of thing of course…
