If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll have seen that Mr B surprised me with a detour on our Moroccan visit and whisked me off to a luxury retreat in the mountains for a night.
This would have made some girls suspicious. But not me, I was merely delighted with the unexpected treat that he’d arranged for us to go to the Atlas mountains.
I accepted champagne by the pool without thinking anything unusual was afoot. I didn’t notice any uneasiness in my other half, any nervous jitters or unexpected behaviour.
I agreed with him when he commented that we had so many lovely times together, and that it was great that we so often wanted exactly the same thing.
I didn’t blink when he said he had to nip off to sort out our dinner arrangements.
And I still didn’t click when on our way to dinner he led me up to the roof of the Kasbah, overlooking the mountains instead of where I thought the restaurant was.
I was a little surprised to see candles littering the terrace and a roaring fire pit sending sparks into the air, but I accepted another glass of champagne from a waiter who appeared from nowhere with glee.
I was more than a little surprised when I saw the small, beautiful stargazers hut on the roof terrace laid out for a romantic dinner for two, lit by hundreds of candles and adorned with scattered rose petals.
But I was absolutely flabbergasted when my partner of seven years led me to a seat with the sun dipping behind the mountains to tell me how much he loved me, how much he would like to spend the rest of his life with me and how delighted he would be if I would agree to be his wife, presenting me with a ring, and looking a little nervous at this point.
As I said, I was flabbergasted. I think my mouth opened and closed a few times before I could get any words out. I might have nodded. I might have asked if that meant we would actually have to get married. And finally, I SAID YES!
WE ARE ENGAGED!
Apart from being terrified at the prospect of attending a wedding in a capacity other than as a guest, I couldn’t be happier knowing that I get to spend many more happy years with my best friend and love.
How lucky am I!
