Santorini travel diary part 2 - Oia sunsets

Santorini, Greece-36

If there is one thing Oia is known for it is the amazing sunsets. People flock from all over the world to sit back and watch the show Mother Nature puts on every evening.

The light softens, the sea sparkles and everywhere becomes golden. The Oia sunsets are really not to be missed.

For a prime location, you need to get a spot pretty early, and we fell into the routine of grabbing a cocktail at a sunset bar an hour or so before the sunset, chatting about our day and sitting in relaxed silence admiring the views. One by one, the seats around us would fill up and by the time the falling sun was bathing everything in a warm glow, the place would be packed.

It’s not difficult to see why. The skies would turn from pink, to orange to a deep red.

Some people might be put off by the crowds jostling one another to get the best shots, but with views like this you can hardly expect to be on your own. We embraced it, ignored the selfie stick battles and took a relaxed approach to life! It is totally worth it.

If you are visiting Santorini, you will get just as beautiful sunsets from other parts of the island, but I really recommend making the trip to see the Oia sunset at least once.

Do you have a favourite sunset spot? I’d love to know where so I can add it to my travel bucket list!
