24 hours in Dubai

24 hours in Dubai-37

In November we stopped in Dubai for a short time on the way to somewhere else (an absolute beauty which I’ll share in the coming weeks). We arrived late one night, had a whole day and night and then flew out again super early the next day. I’m calling it 24 hours, although technically it was a bit more, but maths has never been my strong point so I’m hoping you’ll forgive me!

Where we stayed

We decided to stay in the Dubai Creek area, which is very close to the airport - perfect for our late arrival in and early departure out. We chose the Dubai Park Hyatt, which was lovely and just what we needed, although we spent such a small amount of time there we didn’t really get to use it to our full advantage.

I don’t seem to have taken a picture of our room but it was really nice, with a lovely balcony overlooking the creek, a huge walk-in shower and a very deep, very luxurious free standing bath which I didn’t get the opportunity to test out. The pool area, again untested, was gorgeous, as were the grounds which were so well kept it must have taken an army of gardeners.

Brunch

We had lunch at the Boardwalk restaurant at the Dubai Creek Yacht and Golf Club which was a stone’s throw from the hotel. We started with bread and olives, then I went for a lobster triple decker with fries with a coffee and a juice - oh, were my eyes bigger than my belly on this occasion! It doesn’t happen often, but I had to admit defeat! Mr B on the other hand went for a conservative Caesar salad, and kindly helped me out with my chips!

Sightseeing

It was my first time in Dubai, so Mr B took me on a whistle-stop tour, taking in the old souks, hopping across the river on the old Abra boats which cost around 20p, visiting the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa, before jumping on the metro to the Dubai Marina.

As night fell, we headed to a bar in one of the sky scrapers, made the most of happy hour and looked out over the glittering city marvelling at the construction of the Palms. When our tummies started to rumble again, we headed back to the Burj Khalifa area to watch the dancing fountains (well worth a visit) and tucked in to amazing gin and tonics and sushi at the Cabana restaurant in The Address (hello dream hotel!).

Exhausted, we jumped in to a taxi to take us home, ready for our next adventure.

Have you ever visited a place just for one day? How did you make the most of your time? Do you have any tips for visiting Dubai?
