Happy Easter friends! Today, of all days (!) I am sharing with you my three favourite refined sugar free chocolate recipes. I know, it seems wrong on chocolate day, but after overloading on sugar, this might just be what you are looking for tomorrow!
About two years ago I reached breaking point with my skin. Nearing thirty, I was fed up of getting breakouts, so I did some research and decided to give up refined sugar. It had a huge positive effect.
As someone who prefers savoury to sweet anyway, I didn’t find it excruciating, but I did realise that I was snacking on sweet stuffs far more than I had realised. A little cake for breakfast here (yes, it always has been, and always will be my favourite early morning food!), a biscuit or two in the afternoon there. I did my best to cut refined sugar out of everything I ate, and found it in places I had never imagined such as sushi, bread, pre-made soups etc.

After a while, I became accustomed to going sugar free, and found it increasingly easy to just say no when offered or tempted. But the problem was, I couldn’t keep it up forever. If I caved and had something sweet, that would be me off the wagon for a few days, and the breakouts would come back. So I started looking for ways to get a sweet fix without the refined sugar. Cue the trend for clean eating, refined sugar free baking and sugar becoming the devil in the media. Good timing really!
I have found a number of delicious, easy and refined sugar free desserts and sugar free baking which help keep my refined sugar intake to a minimum, and I thought I would share my top three chocolate ones with you. Whether you want to give it a go to fix skin issues, lose weight, or would just like to feed your body natural goodness -now my main reason for going sugar free- I would highly recommend them.
I have gone back to eating refined sugar, but far less frequently and turn to these recipes for my daily fix saving the bad stuff for when I am celebrating, eating out, caught out etc.
Raw brownies by Deliciously Ella
These are so quick and easy to make, and only have three ingredients. They require no baking, and are great for taking out on the go. They are not like a traditional chocolate brownie, but they are very delicious in their own right.
Ultimate gluten free choc chip cookies by Madeleine Shaw
I made these a couple of weeks ago for the first time and took them to work, and I have been inundated with requests to make them again since. They are so easy, tasty and definitely going to become a firm favourite in my household. Mr B approved of them too which is great in one sense, but they seem to diminish far quicker…
Hemsley Hemsley chocolate avocado mousse
For something without sugar, cream or in fact, actual chocolate as we know it, this is amazingly luxurious and creamy. This satisfies me when I am craving something sweet after a meal, and is very rich so you don’t need much.
