3 trends to try for the new season

3 trends to try this seasonI can definitely feel a bit of spring in the air and it is making me all sorts of excited to pack away the winter boots and get started on my spring/summer dressing. Luckily I have a little break planned next week to Abu Dhabi  and I can’t wait to to get some sun and start wearing fewer layers.

I’ve had a little look round the shops in anticipation of the new season, and here are the three trends that look like they are going to be big news.

Statement sleeves

Statement sleeves started creeping in a little while ago, but the high street stores are now fully on board and there is loads of choice, particularly when it comes to bell and trumpet sleeved tops.

I was walking through M&S for work back in January and I stopped in my tracks when I saw this jumper. I didn’t have time to buy it, but since then I have seen it all over Instagram and Pinterest. This fluted sleeve blouse would also make a great addition to the wardrobe and can be worn now and when the weather is warmer.

My favourite top of the year has both statement sleeves (well cuffs) and ruffles so ticks two trends in one. It also has recently been relaunched and now comes in three colours; blush, ivory and black.

This gorgeous top is practical as well as stunning as the statement sleeve is  set a little higher, which will be good for eating!

Frills and ruffles

It seems this season is coming over all frilly, but don’t let that fool you into thinking frills and ruffles are girly in a sickly-sweet way. This season’s frills and ruffles are more grown up, deconstructed and styled than before. Expect to see crisp lines, edgy fabrics and bold looks.

This top is fun and the colour way stops it from being too twee, and this gorgeous shirt is the perfect ruffley-take on the simple white shirt. It would look great with some straight leg jeans and flats in a pop of colour.

I can totally see myself wearing this frilled dress for work with heels, or dressed down with trainers at the weekend, and it’s not just tops and dresses that are getting their feathers ruffled, these super cute shoes will definitely be making their way in to my basket.

If you have an occasion, Self Portrait take their ruffles really quite seriously, and one of my favourite current pieces at the moment is this mini dress.

I wouldn’t have said that embroidery was my thing, but there have been two pairs of shoes in recent months that made me come over all heart-eyed emoji and they both had embroidery on. The first were these Gucci Princetown loafers (OK so I wouldn’t actually buy them because of the price, but hello cuties!) and these Tabitha Simmons ballet flats. OK, so who am I kidding, there may have been more than two pairs of shoes that made me come over all gooey, but these two were definitely up there with them!

For a slightly more budget friendly option, try these Topshop embroidered slippers (also available in black) or this pretty pair from ASOS.

Clothes wise, everything from denim jackets, jeans and shirts are being embroidered, not too mention bags.

Have a look at my selection below for some inspiration.

What do you think? Will you be trying any of these trends this season?
