If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen I was recently in Marrakech. It is a trip I have wanted to do for a really, really long time and Mr B and I decided this year was the year of holidays (I know, great huh!) – so this vibrant place was top of my list.
We planned a four night stay over the bank holiday, and flew from London on a horribly early flight which meant we arrived into Marrakech at a good time mid-morning. We set off through the airport to meet our guide who would lead us through the winding medina to our riad. However, Mr B had other plans. He had surprise-booked a night in the mountains for us and whisked me away to Kasbah Tamadot, Richard Branson’s beautiful Kasbah in the foothills of the Atlas mountains about an hour away from Marrakech.
I fell in love with the place pretty quickly. Elegant, unfussy and incredibly beautiful, it had a relaxed air that felt about as far away from a five star hotel as you could get but with all the facilities and service you would expect.
The story behind the place is Branson was in Marrakech when he was planning his trip around the world in a hot air balloon. His parents saw it and fell in love. Fast forward a few years and it is a high-end luxury retreat with no airs and graces just a very laid back atmosphere with brilliant customer service in a magnificently beautiful location.
On arrival we were given hot towels and taken to the veranda to enjoy a glass of the very delicious sparkling. Another couple arrived only moments before us and we recognised them from the flight. After a few minutes conversation I released the lady – Amanda, who is an advertising film producer, and I had a common friend who Amanda had spent the previous week filming with! I love it when this big world gives us a little nudge to remind us that it is not so big after all!
Anyway, back to the Kasbah. After our drinks (I might have had more than one) we were given a tour of the Kasbah and I don’t think I have ever given more ‘oohs’ and ‘aaahs’ before.
Our final stop was our suite, which was just perfect. Vibrant colours, rich fabrics, and our very own tower with sun lounge. As you do.
After lots of excited squealing and opening all cupboards and doors available to us, we headed back out to explore the rest of the gardens.
Exploring over, we jumped into the ginormous pool and settled ourselves onto some loungers to catch the afternoon’s rays. We were promptly brought iced water followed by iced fruit on sticks, a perfect way to cool off. Sadly though, our sunning didn’t last long and mother nature helped cool us off with a bit of rain and thunder!
I’ll leave you of one more shot in the beautiful sunshine though, as no one wants to see rainy holiday pictures!
Keep tuned for more of my Moroccan travels over the next few days, and some exciting news.
